A Day at New Lanark

World Heritage Site of New Lanark - Falls Of Clyde - RSPB Peregrine Falcon Hide - Royal Burgh of Lanark

We are lucky enough to have the UNESCO World Heritage Site of New Lanark on our doorstep and it really does warrant a whole day to visit.  This restored cotton mill gives a unique insight into the life of mill workers from 100s of years ago with views of the mills, the workers cottages and shops, the ground breaking technology which powered the mill, a day in the life of a child mill worker and much more.  The site has shops and a cafe and regularly hosts events.  Situated next to the River Clyde there is the added bonus of a stunning circular walk which takes you past the famous Falls of Clyde and at certain times of the year an incredible view of nesting Peregrine Falcons.  You can round the day off by eating at one of the many restaurants in Lanark.

A Day in The Borders

Biggar - Peebles - Traquair House - Melrose Abbey

Our recommended route takes you from Craigend travelling East through the town of Biggar and then past no end of sights.  You can visit the historic market town of Peebles, the wonderful Traquair House, and head on to Melrose Abbey in yet another beautiful and historic town.  No one thing will occupy a full day, but by following this route you can be sure of an interesting and varied time with a mix of castles, scenery and great food.  Speaking of which, we recommend you stop off for an award winning Fish Supper at the Townhead Cafe in Biggar on your way home

A Day at Drumlanrig and Moffat

Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate - Moffat

A Day on the Ayrshire Coast

Culzean Castle and Country Park - Turnberry - Royal Troon - Robert Burns Museum - Ayr

In just 15 minutes drive west of Craigend you are in Ayrshire and depending on whether you travel South West or North West, in less than an hour you have a choice of wonderful things to do.  Travel to our favourite Castle, Culzean, which sits on a cliff top looking out to sea and Ailsa Craig and then down to one of Scotlands most famous golf courses, Turnberry.  Spectacular coastal scenery and views of the Isle of Arran will amaze.  Or travel up the coast to visit the Robert Burns Museum and the Burns Cottage and take in the town of Ayr or another famous Golf Course, Royal Troon.

An hour East of Craigend, Edinburgh is of course a must see for every visitor to Scotland.  There is far too much to list here and again, we can help you plan your day to get the very most out of it.  Recommendations would of course be Edinburgh Castle and if you are lucky enough to be visiting during the Edinburgh Festival we highly recommend the Tattoo.  Edinburghs medieval streets offer something different at every turn, whether it be evening Ghost tours or visiting the staues of Walter Scott or Wee Grey Friars Bobby.  The National Museum of Scotland houses some of Scotlands most treasured artifacts and The Royal Yacht Britannia has been moored in Edinburgh for some years now and offers and intimate insight into the life of the Royal Family at Sea
