A view of Craigend

WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF UPDATING OUR WEBSITE SO PLEASE  EXCUSE OUR 'TEMPORARY' STATE!

Set in the beautiful Lanarkshire countryside, Craigend Bed and Breakfast offers the perfect peaceful retreat for those wanting to enjoy a picturesque location, whilst being able to easily reach all Lanarkshire has to offer. Tucked away at the end of a discreet lane, Craigend Bed and Breakfast is perfectly situated for holiday makers and business travellers alike.

Originally, a landed estate owned by the Greenshields family,Westoun is a tiny hamlet near Coalburn which lies just 3 miles (5 minutes) off Jct 11 of M74. Craigend Bed and Breakfast is ideally situated for those wishing to stop off on longer journeys or those needing a base from which to visits cities such as Glasgow, Edinburgh and Ayr. Lanarkshire itself has lots to offer and our proximity to the World Heritage Site of New Lanark and the Falls of Clyde (20 minutes) ensure that you will have plenty to see and do right on our doorstep. Speaking of which, Craigend Bed and Breakfast is fortunate to be surrounded by the most beautiful countryside. Walkers, riders and rough cyclists will be especially pleased with the miles and miles of open spaces there are to explore....and for those who prefer their open spaces manicured....golfers will find this part of Scotland rich in a choice of golf courses.

We are pleased to announce that in Summer 2008 we installed two Mosquito Magnet Machines which have SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the midge population in and around our Bed and Breakfast. This, we hope, will make our customers more comfortable and will offer one of the only midge free oasis in the middle of Lanarkshire.

Please take a moment to browse through our website to see what we can offer here at Craigend Bed and Breakfast and be sure to take a look at our image gallery.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.

ABOUT US AND OUR PHILOSOPHY
John was born in Lanark and I (Heather) was born in Paisley. Both of us somehow ended up living and working in the south of England, but having met, the desire to return home became too hard to resist. In 2006 we made the decision to change our lives completely and follow the dream of finding our ‘forever house’ and starting a Bed and Breakfast. In 2007 we finally found Craigend Cottage, a house so perfect we were sure that other people would love it as much as us. In January 2008 we launched our website and we haven’t stopped for breath since!

Having travelled extensively through our business and personal lives, we felt well qualified on how NOT to run a bed and breakfast! We can match any of your Bed and Breakfast/Hotel nightmare stories and then some! We were determined to do things differently when we started our B&B and set about creating what we hope is the ideal place to stay.
.
We believe that people choose to stay in a Bed and Breakfast because they do not want the impersonal feeling that a hotel gives. They want to feel they have truly stayed in the area and have learnt and seen more than they would normally. They want to stay somewhere where the owner personally sees to everything and who has a vested interest in ensuring that they are happy. When we first established Craigend Bed and Breakfast we did so with all this in mind and a list of personal goals gleaned from our own travelling experiences.

We aim to ensure that our B&B is...

• A relaxed, comfortable place to stay which willl make our customers feel like they are staying with friends.
• A place that people will want to come back to and feel safe recommending to others.
• A B&B without rigid rules and inflexible proprietors.
• A B&B we would want to stay in ourselves.
• Rooms that are modern and stylish with everything that today’s travellers would expect, but without being so pretentious and formal you’d be frightened to sit down.
• An environment where the outside is as important as the inside.
• Value for money
• Clean, fresh rooms with no reminders of previous guests
• Fresh breakfasts with ‘proper’ portions
• A B&B where nothing is too much trouble

These are the things we think are important and we strive every day to adhere to these goals.

If our philosophy strikes a cord with you, then Craigend Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place for you to stay.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY

Here are just a few of the comments our customers have been kind enough to write in our visitors book. since we opened in January 2008.

We have had a wonderful time, booked for one night and stayed for three! It’s so peaceful and idyllic to be in the middle of the countryside and yet so convenient for the M74. Heather and John have looked after us exceptionally well, better than a 5 star hotel! Superb accommodation and looking forward to next time!
Alan & Helen Turner – Cheshire – Sept 08

We had a spacious and warm room overlooking the garden and the bird feeders. The book of birds in the room helped with identification and we saw the red headed woodpecker three times! The variety of drinks supplied was much appreciated – Green Tea with Pineapple – lovely. We appreciated the warm welcome to a warm house. Everything was of a very high quality – goose down bed covers were a special joy. Many thanks for all your efforts on our behalf. Thank you and good wishes for your venture.
Alan and Lynette Cook – Berlin – Aug08

The best B&B we have stayed in the UK in the past week travelling. Thank you for the hospitality – sorry we are not staying longer.

Tim – Herts – July 08

We got lost!! But Heather guided us through the beautiful countryside and was so friendly, welcoming and helpful that we couldn’t help but want to return. Great Food, Fresh produce and a place we will return to one day.

Very comfortable accommodation. A warm welcome – we enjoyed sitting on the veranda! First Class Breakfast – especially the fried bread. Hope to call again.
Derek & Jean – Somerset – Jun 08

To date the best B&B I have stayed in, and being able to bring my dogs with me made all the difference. Ty and Blaze loved their walks and this ideal setting. Will come again.
Lez – Northants – June 08

Very nice B&B. Great Breakfast and lovely scenery. 8 bird species on the feeders in 15 minutes – not bad! Unfortunately no badgers this time, maybe next time…..!
Lucy & Alex – Aberdeen – May 08

Am lost for words – this is a wonderful place – hope we have the chance to return see how the garden has progressed.
Mr & Mrs Knackstedt – Australia – May 08

Wish we had stayed longer! Fantastic House, rooms & location. Our Springer Spaniel Tilly was made very welcome and enjoyed a refreshing dip in the river on arrival. Fortunately Heather stepped in with a dog towel to dry her off! Breakfast was lovely and set us up well for the rest of the day. We will certainly be stopping here again. Many Thanks.
The Tullochs – Essex – May 08

Sad that my couple of days stay had to be on a business nature. I could see myself exploring the awaiting countryside (bet there’s some fishing out there somewhere). The hospitality was above and beyond, didn’t meet John but Heather did a very good job (more like being at home) till next time farewell!
Terry Arnold – Birmingham – May 08

Such lovely house an beautiful surroundings. Unfortunately our stay was much too short but maybe we’ll get back one day.
Maija – Finland – May 08

What can we say except thank you for an excellent stay. We love the house, the garden, the views, the surrounds and the bedrooms were just the best, so comfy – (I love the superking size!). The food was delicious and your hospitality was out of this world. We’ll just so be coming back!! Thanks Mille fois.
Caroline and Nil - Belgium – Mar 08
